WolfCop, An Outrageous Horror Comedy

Leo Fafard starts to change into the werewolf

WOLFCOP boxart

Outrageous, mindless and ridiculous this horror comedy has the right mixture of fun. Wolfcop is so impressive, you’ll want to see it again and again and it’s on DVD. The flick delivers good acting, action and special effects that will make you laugh, creep you out and induce vomiting in the timid. This movie is only for those who can stomach a LOT of guts and gore or huge fans of the genre.

It was a bad night for alcoholic cop Lou Garou (short for the French ‘Loup Garou’ that means werewolf) (played by Leo Fafard) who awakens next to a lady friend the morning after. He’s got a huge hangover, one that turns the stomach. Arriving at the police station he finds out from Deputy Tina (Amy Matysio) that there was a robbery last night by men with pig masks. He follows a lead from his friend Willie Higgins (Jonathan Cherry) that ends up in the woods where he gets knocked out cold. The next morning things start happening to Lou that will change his life forever.

The comedy runs high in this werewolf story as Lou tries to figure out who is behind all the killings in the city and why Liquor Donuts always get robbed. Director Lowell Dean does a very good job shooting this horror flick with all the body parts, transformations and many changes in sets and locations. He moves his story along at a good pace getting to the center of this grisly tale and keeping his audience entertained. Not the usual hunt for a werewolf, this film uses the beast to bring justice.

I don’t know how Leo Fafard keeps his composure in several scenes that get beyond silly. The special make-up, prosthesis and costuming that Fafard has to wear must take hours to set up. Then there’s the tearing of his flesh as he becomes the hairy monster. It’s got to be very demanding on the actor, but it’s his performance that makes the film work. A tip of the hat to Fafard, I don’t know of many actors who would go through the torture for an independent production.

The make-up crews must have nightmares every night after a shoot. The people who are responsible for the excellent transformations include Nina McArthur, Candace Umbach, Pamela Warden, Casey Marjus. Wyatt Thorseth, Emersen Ziffle, Akash Sherman, Rebecca Donison, Kristie Nostbakken, Joanna Vollhoffer and Brenda Shenher. Oh, and the set decorations by Adrian Traquair, with dressers Scott Beresh, Robin Cheston, Mike Story must have had a fun time putting the bathroom scene together as there are pieces of flesh and buckets of blood everywhere. These are the people that make a difference in bringing a film like this to the screen. Without their painstaking attention to detail this film would not have been anywhere as good.
