Bob’s Burgers: Season One, A Comical Animated DVD

The first season of Bob’s Burgers has been completed and delivers a very funny show for the Fox family.  Bringing a whole new world to animation lovers this character driven comedy is a big hit.  I like the way each show ties in family problems while they are trying to grow a business.

The Belcher’s lead by father Bob is trying to save and increase their business in a seedy location with a family that includes three youngsters.  His wife fills in wherever needed and the kids pop up with their helpfulness in various episodes.  There’s always a lot of disorder, confusion and chaos but that’s what makes this show so comical.

I like the fact that this family works together and has respect for their parents even if occasionally they get into trouble.  Much the opposite of The Simpsons and Family Guy the negative factor is very low in Bob’s Burgers.  And, most episodes come up with some good life lessons instead of unresolved ill manners. It’s not to say that there aren’t some gross, disturbing and off-color subjects in several shows, but they are handled with values in their amusing outcomes.

The cast includes the voice talents of: H. Jon Benjamin as Bob, John Roberts as Linda, Kristen Schaal as Louise, Eugene Mirman as Gene and Dan Mintz as Tina. The show was created by Loren Bouchard and written by Bouchard and Jim Dauterive.

The 2-disc set on DVD includes all thirteen episodes: “Human Flesh”, “Crawl Space”, “Sacred Cow”, “Sexy Dance Fighting”, “Hamburger Dinner Theater”, “Kheesh! Cab, Bob?”, “Bed & Breakfast”, “Art Crawl”, “Spaghetti Western and Meatballs”, “Burger War”, “Weekend at Mort’s”, “Lobsterfest”, and “Torpedo”. All episodes are very funny, different and oftentimes the ‘real world’.

The special features are insightful and entertaining and include:

  • “Lifting Up the Skirt of the Night” Music Video
  • Audio Outtakes for “Bed and Breakfast” and “Sexy Dance Fighting”
  • Bob’s Burgers Original Demo with Introduction by Loren Bouchard
  • Louise and the Chalkboard
  • Audio Commentary Available on All Episodes

FINAL ANALYSIS: A fun show for the mature. [rating=5]
