Marvel Studios introduces a new and very powerful hero to the Avengers series, Captain Marvel. This film has everything that you may expect from a typical Marvel movie, except the story changing secrets that await you. What really kept my attention is how it all ties into the Avengers series. Honestly I have been blown away with Captain Marvel, not just the character itself but the story, the out of this world action and the performances of all the actors in this “marvelous” motion picture.

Captain Marvel has always been one of my favorite superheroes, but now hands down she’s a favorite. I’m probably the biggest comic book nerd you can think of for the whole Avengers series so that’s saying a lot. In actuality, Captain Marvel was originally created as a man, but the character got changed to a women in 1967. Hanging with my friends and walking the mall I see people (not just friends) but  observant bystanders pointing at posters and looking ecstatic.  Most of them were surprised with the exciting looking posters, and were commenting on wanting to see the movie. Not a one of my friends and their friends have anything negative to say and I think it’s the wave that will hit the boxoffice this weekend. And for the die-hard Marvel fans all I can say is, get ready for a ride to the ins and outs of the amazing new movie and the new addition to the Avengers as I have seen it and love it.

The story takes place in the 1980’s. There are “things” that you may find in that era that have changed in today’s teen world. Pay phones, pagers and the movie video store “Blockbuster” are just some of the few. As a teen of this generation, other than in movies,  I’ve pretty much heard of, but have never seen the old  “electronics” in use.

Gladly this film includes  younger characters that you will find in the more recent era of the Avengers stories. The most recognizable were two people you may not know right away, but then you will realize it’s Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and agent Coulson (Clark Gregg). And the one you get to spot immediately is Captain Marvel  with Brie Larson playing the role and also known as Vers by the Kree. Brie Larson is  known for the movies The Gambler and 21 Jump Street. She plays her character to perfection with the help of some awesome special effects.

The movie takes place between planets as she is first seen as a member of the Starforce who fights to save other planets. The Starforce is made up of the Kree a strong people that rule their planet. The main mission for the Kree is to hop from planet to planet helping save the  inhabitants from the evil race of shape-shifting monsters who are called “Scrolls”. Having memory loss Vers doesn’t know it yet but on Earth her real name is Carol Danvers, but  the Kree soldiers who revived her when she was found at the crash site do not want her to know that. She now, with her unimaginable powerful abilities, fight with the Kree.

Directors Kevin Feige and Anna Boden  who along with the Marvel movie writers never cease to amaze me. I was intrigued by the use of comedy, action, futuristic weaponry and the intelligence of modifying old appliances into intergalactic communication and lethal machinery. Honestly I’d have to say that they and Marvel have out done themselves with this film.

An outside opinion states “The Marvel studios did a great job portraying the time period as well as tying everything in and up to date with the current Marvel’s Avengers series. To me the movie as a whole did not feel quite like a Marvel movie, but other than that it was a fantastic movie over all with great character development and an ever changing plot.”

Rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and brief suggestive language
