Shame, Erotically NC-17
Brilliantly written, cunningly directed and very disturbing Shame gives a fly on the wall view of eroticism. What makes this film a work of art however, comes with the fine acting by Fassbender and Carey Mulligan who give performances worthy of an Oscar.
The Rebound, A Good Blu-Ray for V-Day
It’s not every film that you find one of the most beautiful women in the world performing for you on Blu-ray. Catherine Zeta-Jones in my estimation is by far the epitome of grace, charm, emotion and elegance and in The Rebound you’ll see why. Now available in time for Valentines Day at stores and for rent, the crafty little romance flick makes use of the amazing actress to corner your heart, capture your inner romantic and satisfy the longing of immeasurable entertainment.
LADY & THE TRAMP, It’s love on Blu-ray
Enhanced with High Definition, Lady and the Tramp has been released on Blu-ray for the first time. The format gives the animated film more color and sharpness missing when it was released in the original VHS Video format. The diamond edition includes the Blu-ray and DVD discs and several bonus features.
THE WOMAN IN BLACK, A DISMAL TALE
For the first time being away from his comfort zone of playing Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliff takes on a Victorian horror flick called The Woman in Black. Although Radcliff has shown a strong growth on his way to being an adult film star, he chose this film that has to prove he has made it. Good choice or bad, he’s now matured and ready for something even bigger. Although I was not pleased with the story due to it’s weak ending, lack of true horror and some plot points that did not work, most of Radcliff’s followers will be waiting in line for tickets.
CHRONICLE, A HIGH FLYER
“It’s all abuzz” and for good reason, Chronicle the movie takes aim for a box-office bundle with a “super-powered” film that’s directed at one of the largest movie going audiences, pre-teen to 25. The highly imaginative, intensely thrilling teen film pushes all the right buttons providing a feeding for the frenzied populace that loves their movies on the edge and full of fantasy. If you fit into this mold, then Chronicle should be at the top of your list, for you it’s a winner.
THE CONQUEST, THE POLITICAL PICTURE
Set in France, The Conquest could have easily been translated to a spoof on the government of the United States. Good acting by Denis Podalydes keeps the story realistic and direction by Xavier Durringer shows he has his finger on the political pulse. If you like a witty take on ‘getting to the top of the food chain,’ then go see The Conquest.
TEXAS KILLING FIELDS, A Suspense Filled Thriller on Blu-ray
A very good script, fine direction and top-notch actors make Texas Killing Fields, now on Blu-ray/DVD, a suspenseful thriller. The film, based on a true happening, winds its way through crime scenes, suspects and chases leading up to a final exciting confrontation. If you like movies that are intriguing with a lot of action, then check out this title now available.
THE DOUBLE, a Thriller on Blu-ray
Although a little lingering at times, The Double, now on Blu-ray/DVD still entertains. The CIA spy thriller plays a game of cat and mouse that’s sure to please those that like good brain stimulation. Well acted by Richard Gere and Topher Grace it’s also a sweet treat for the ladies.
