Michael Shanks Turns Relationship Angst into Body Horror Gold in Together
Comic-Con ’25
Metrocon 2025 the escape from reality

The premier event for all things comics and related popular art, including movies, television, gaming, and interactive multimedia, this year’s Comic-Con is bigger than ever—drawing over 135,000 attendees.

I got into Hall H to witness sneak peeks of the new Outlander spinoff—Blood of My Blood. The prequel to the compelling Outlander series, Blood of My Blood focuses on the lives and courtship of the parents of Jamie Fraser: Brian Fraser and Ellen Mackenzie, as well as Claire Beauchamp’s parents, Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston.

A sneak peek of the series can be found here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt18332852/?ref_=vp_close

I was at the press line for the debut of the “Blood of My Blood” cast:

Jamie Roy, Harriet Slater, Sam Retford, Rory Alexander, Hermione Corfield, and Seamus McLean Ross

Next was a premiere of the feature, Unexpected Treasures, a new alien comedy about a mysterious alien on the run in the Mojave Desert.

Later, I had the chance to interview the film’s director, writer, and some of the cast.

Later, I had the opportunity to interview Michael B. Moore, the great-great-grandson of Robert Smalls. He talked about his involvement in helping produce the film based on the new graphic novel DEFIANT: THE STORY OF ROBERT SMALLS from Legion M.

The Story of Robert Smalls is a 128-page, full-color journey through the life of an extraordinary American hero. From his audacious escape from slavery by commandeering a Confederate steamship to his distinguished service in the Union Navy and finally, his influential career as a U.S. Congressman during Reconstruction, Smalls’ story underscores the power of one individual to fuel change.

Also talked to Marvin Jones III, the Executive Producer of Defiant

Next up was Rhapsody PR’s SUPERSONIC, the 17th annual Behind-the-Music panel.

Here’s my interview with Emmy Award-winning composer Amanda Jones. She is rapidly becoming a standout voice amongst a new generation of film and television composers. Her recent films include Moving On, directed by Oscar-winning director Paul Weitz, starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin; Netflix’s The Perfect Find, directed by Numa Perrier; the upcoming #1 On the Call Sheet, starring Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, Tessa Thompson, and more for Apple TV +, Paramount’s animated feature Jodie, starring Tracee Ellis Ross; and Mea Culpa, starring Kelly Rowland for Netflix.

I also interviewed Los Angeles-based composer Kurt Farquhar, who is widely known for shows such as King of Queens, Girlfriends, Black Lightning, The Neighborhood, Proud Family: Louder & Prouder, Abraham Lincoln, Not Easily Broken, and The Perfect Match. In 2022 Kurt was presented with the Hollywood Music in Media Career Achievement Award. Kurt is a nine-time BMI award winner, four for his work on The King of Queens, two for Being Mary Jane & The Neighborhood, and one for The Game. He is also a Los Angeles Confidential Impact Award winner.

Closing out my Comic-Con, I met up with some friends at the Den of Geek Party at San Diego’s Horton Grand Hotel for much-needed rest and s food and drinks, courtesy of Den of Geek.
