I haven’t ever seen the TV show “Downton Abbey” and honestly knew not one thing about it, but I do have to say that I greatly enjoyed the movie. I personally like history and the aristocratic society and that’s what Downton Abbey is about. The way they portray the drama without over exaggerating and their use of snobby, but the humorous sarcasm kept my attention. The only problem was that there was a lot going on all at once. All in all it is an amazing movie and worth going to see.
Downtown Abbey is about an aristocratic family living in England. They are very wealthy with the whole works; maids, butlers, personal cooks, and all you can think of a stereotypical billionaire house would have and look like. In the movie, like I was told about the TV show, there is a lot of drama between the families where everything that could possibly go wrong, does. It may be like that in the TV show, but not in the movie. In the film all the problems are caused by the characters and worked out in a better fashion then started.

Here’s a snippet of what goes on in the film. The king and queen are on their way to a parade and make a stop at Downton Abbey for a day because the family living in the mansion, the Crawley’s, share the same heritage as the royal family. There is an ongoing quarrel going on between the Crawley family of Downton and the Bagshaw family of the royalty. The issue between the families is that the Baxter’s were the rightful family to the throne in which the Crawley family thinks otherwise. Some of the family members of both sides do not want to see each other because of their family issues.
For the royal visit a fine and fancy dinner is in order for pleasure of the king and queen. There’s a problem though as the king and queen have brought their own staff for the night. The Downton staff do not like the fact that they’re not the ones to make and serve the royal family a fine meal. So they go to the extent of putting drugs in the cooks wine and locking doors leaving nobody to cook the meal except Downton’s staff. Cooking a meal for royalty is every ones dream and they won’t let anything get in their way. “nobody cooks in this house accept us” they tell the royal servants and that’s t way they want and will have it, no exceptions.

The acting is to perfection bringing the movie to life. The main characters are Maud Bagshaw (Imelda Staunton), Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith), Thomas Barlow (Robert James-Collier), and Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton). They add the suspense and drama to the story. Even in the opinion of a teen, who you may be wondering why I may be reviewing this movie, I think the film is flawless. I have to say this is one of the best films of the year so far.
Director Michael Angler has made me think more about a film like this and I hope he does a sequel of Downton Abbey in the future. I’m going to start watching the TV series and even though I may be behind of the whole series of the Downton Abby’s plot and characters, it will be great to be brought up to date.
My grade for Downton Abbey is 4 out of 5 Stars
The film has been rated PG by the MPAA for thematic elements, some suggestive material, and language.
