Eternals “The Celestial Evolution”

Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) in Marvel Studios' ETERNALS.

Have you ever watched a movie and wondered if it were better as a television series, or vice versa? Lately in the Marvel universe, in my opinion, this has been the case with a lot of their productions. Things I believe to be crucial to the plot sometimes are left in the dust, or they get brought to the light when you’ve long waited for clarification from sometimes three movies prior. Don’t get me wrong, the movie “Eternals” is two thumbs up for casting and fight scenes, but story development seems like there are a lot left out of the light, leaving questions needed to be answered.

The actors and actresses chosen for casting could not have been better. Specifically, the female cast blew my mind. Their characters seemed to be more in character, whereas the male cast were more of the comedic side of the story. Each of the characters have their own means of importance to the story however, which made each scene they appeared in important and necessary to the film. Their lack of attachment to earth, forbidden by law of the celestials, brings out an increasing pain between all of the 8 eternals. Their pain and expressions we recut to the teeth. I give credit for amazing acting and casting for this well thought out film.

As you know, Marvel knows how to bring action fight scenes to a new level. Even though the action shots weren’t as advertised in the trailer, they are extremely important to the whole marvel universe’s storyline. However, back-and-forth chemistry between the Eternals as well as themselves became confusing as the film went along. There’s a shattered relationship that showsa family bond, a family made up of individuals with many conflicting personality traits that are never fleshed out.

Personally, I was confused when I heard this was the best marvel movie to date from the advertising, I find that statement controversial to the comic community. I don’t want to say I completely disagree because of its importance to the marvel universe, but I’m hoping when I go back to see it again I change my mind. And yes, I will be going back to re-watch the movie premier day to find each detail I may have missed. There are many Easter eggs within each scene, and some predictability and repetitive scenes.

I did enjoy the film and look forward to sequels, but I’m hoping my interest in the Eternals movie will grow. This film is rated PG-13 for fantasy violence and action, some language and brief sexuality. 3 out 5 Stars.
