“GIRL” A Thriller on DVD

Bella Throne in GIRL on DVD from Screen Media

Releasing this week is the thriller GIRL and while it does have some good action, it falls short of what was expected from the trailer. That said, I did like Bella Thorne’s performance and some of the unexpected twists. If you like girl powered action films, this one should work for you.

Heading for her father’s house in a small town, a twenty something girl (Bells Thorne) is hell bent on killing her father for making her mother miserable. She arrives in the small town and finds her way to the homestead where her father is dead and stung up to the rafters of his barn. Wondering who killed him she now turns to wanting revenge. What happens next finds the girl in a hornet’s nest of southern inhospitality.

Mickey Rourke as the Sheriff in GIRL from Screen media

While the script is a little sketchy, the acting is pretty good, especially Bella who knows how to take a beating and make it look real. Playing opposite long time bad guy Mickey Rourke as the ornery sheriff works good and we do get some good thrills when the action begins.

Bella Thorne as Girl in GIRL from Screen Media

The film plays best to a mature audience made up mainly of men, but does also work for women who like strong women beating up bad guys. The film has been rated TV-MA and contains violence, brief nudity and language. My rating for GIRL is 3.5 for males, 3 for females out of 5 stars.
