“Housewife” Grisly and Evil

Camera, locations, settings and lighting make the story of Housewife a very spooky, scary and sick film that should turn most horror fans’ psyche into high gear. If terror is your idea of a fun night with friends, then you’ll be interested to know that this movie has hit the home video market on DVD, VOD and Digital HD. Better still, get a group of like mannered friends together and pop the DVD into the player and serve their favorite libation. Happy Halloween!

The story centers on Holly (Clementine Poidatz) a woman who survived a night of bloody horror involving her sister Hazel (Elif Gulolp) and her parents. Many years after the mess she is happily married to Tim (Ali Aksoz) a sci-fi book writer. Haunted by her past she hears that her estranged friend Valerie (Alicia Kapudag) will be in town touring with a cult group called ULM. The cult is run by Bruce O’Hara (David Sakurai) a dynamic speaker with a lot of followers. When Valerie gets Holly to attend Bruce O’Hara’s Umbrella of love and Mind seminar, she starts to see things from her past.

The film plays out with several twists leading up to a turn that explains some things you may have missed in the beginning. Director Can Evrenol brings a lot of evil to the screen with his gory flick using a lot of special bloody props and make-up. It’s a gore fest that puts the viewer front row of some disturbing scenes that should entertain the fans of a grisly Halloween. You know, the ones that will go to Halloween Horror Nights at least 3 to 4 nights in a row.

A scene from Housewife, a RLJE Film

The acting is acceptable and actually a bit better than most independent offerings I’ve seen this season of the witch and ghouls. Evrenol does a decent job of getting his characters to be believable while acting out their scripted dialogue. His interpretation of the sex and stark-naked scenes are a bit gratuitous, especially the birthing few moments that gets quite graphic.

Zuri Sen as Young Holly in Housewife, a RLJE Film

Housewife has not been rated by the MPAA, but contains, sex, nudity, language and gory violence. It’s a masterful mix of terror, science fiction and drama. My main problem with it comes with the final twist that does get a bit hokey. Be very cautious and keep the film in a safe place if you have immature children as it’s very inappropriate for youngsters. Always watch a horror flick first before deciding to pass it on to your adult teens.

FINAL ANALYSIS: One of the better independent horror flicks for this genre’s fans. (4 out of 5 Stars)
