“Jersey Shore Massacre” Bimbos Beefcake and Blood

Theresa (Danielle Dallacco) and Dina (Angelica Boccella) are heading for the Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore BOX ART

Wild and wacky, the horror comedy Jersey Shore Massacre gets a home entertainment release on Blu-ray and DVD.  The film has the perfect cast for the heavy Jersey accent laden spoof and makes it a fun watch.  It may be a little over the top when it comes to teasing the guidos and guidettes on the “Jersey Riviera”, but there’s nothing like it when it comes to their ethnic banter.  The film does tend to get a little ridiculous at times, but if you like your horror with comedy and a lot of fake guts and gore, this one gets silly right down to the last bloody scene of the story.

The story opens with an incident in the woods and then switches to the Touch of Class beauty parlor where Gigi (Christina Scaglione), Dina (Angelica Boccella), Joanne (Nicole Rutigliano) Valerie (Ashley Mitchell) and Theresa (Danielle Dallacco) planning a weekend at the New Jersey Shore, lovingly known as Seaside Heights.  They have rented a cottage right on the beach and are bringing their best swim suites to attract the guidos.  When they get to the cottage however, they find that Ronny (Ron Jeremy) rented the place to some other girls by mistake.

Now with no place to stay Theresa calls her mafia uncle who sets them up in the woods of Jersey Heights just a mile from the beach.  The place is a palace with elaborate rooms and a huge swimming pool.  The girls are happy and they head for the beach.  There they meet some wanabe Italian studs Gino (Brett Azar), Tony (Giovanni J Roselli), Vinnie (Brenton Duplessie), Freddy (Chris Lazzaro), and Joey (John Michael Hastie).  They ask the guys to come over to their cottage for a party.

The comedy gets most of the attention following the opening scene with the girls getting into some cat fights and a visit to Jersey “Devil Town”.  Toward the middle of the second act the violence begins with Gigi getting the first blood bath.  Writer and Director Paul Tarnopol starts to bump off his stars one and two at a time Friday the 13th style.  He doesn’t spare the fake blood or the blade as the killers put a damper on the party.  It’s all guts and gore from that point on, although we do get a respite between each one with some love making and a comical twist or two.

The acting is very good with the main stars providing thick accents, Italian gestures, over filling swimsuits and showing off their tight dresses.  While it is a T&A film, the curvaceous ladies are also good actresses when it comes to line delivery and listening to scene direction.  I never had the chance to see the reality based television show Jersey Shore from which this is a spin off, but since the executive producer of the film is Jenni ‘Jwoww’ Farley who was in 72 of the episodes, you can guess that a lot of this movie had that kind of feel to it.

The movie is shot by cinematographer Jay Shropshire and edited by Brian Bayerl extremely well with gorgeous views of the beach, a well lit cottage, and all the brutal action.  The film does make use of the awesome house where the film was shot, especially the pool where the girls and the guys square off with some comical monkey business.

BONUS FEATURES

The extras are fun and do have a lot of interesting comments by actors, director and producers.

  • “Bigfoot Unmedicated” is a quick interview with one of the ‘beastly’ guys in the film.
  • “Italian Ice Mucic Video ‘Melt’”
  • “Behind the Scenes of ‘Jersey Shore Massacre’” the filmmakers and some of the key actresses have their day to tell all.
  • “Fat Camp Massacre 1” a spoof on the film the guys are watching at the cottage

The presentation on the Blu-ray is very clear and sometimes gruesome, but that’s what home viewers get this film for anyway.  The sound on my HD television using the regular speakers is good, but if you have an upgraded sound system the special effects are more distinct.

Jersey Shore Massacre has been rated R by the MPAA for graphic bloody horror violence, sexual content, nudity, language and brief drug material.  Be very cautious if you have youngsters in the house that they do not watch the film as there are many scenes of brutality and gore.
