LEWIS BLACK boxart

One of the funniest comics in the business today, Lewis Black has released Lewis Black: Old Yeller (Live at the Borgata in Atlantic City) one of his better routines on DVD. The high profile funny guy takes you into the life of an oldster and lets you know what a good segment of the population is thinking about our life and times. He presents it all in tongue-in-cheek fashion, but there’s a lot in what he has to say.  He’s on both sides of the fence when it comes to politics, but he’s down and dirty with many other topics.  You don’t have to be over 50 to enjoy this very funny banter, but it helps.

Lewis Black is a standup comedian who thrives on rants about most everything earthly. He has been a regular on The Daily Show where he stops in now and then to give his opinion on items in the news.  He is an award winner taking home a Grammy for Best Comedy Album and has a Master’s Degree from the Yale School of Drama.  His first film appearance as an actor was in Woody Alan’s Hannah and Her Sisters and from there has 40 film and TV credits to his name including guest starring on The Big Bang Theory in 2009.

In this DVD release he tells all about subjects like marriage, his parents, Social Security, taxes, the consumer price index, parenting, Health Care, “What’s more important the individual or the group”, religion, alternative energy, the cell phone, “we are going nowhere as a country”, Drugs, facebook and many more items directed at the populace of the United States.  He’s a hoot, and in most cases Black nails the problem although he’s light footed on the solutions. He says it’s all in fun, but deep down in the performance shows differently as his rants hit home all too often.

Being a good comedian is hard work, but Black seems to command his audience with aplomb.  He works on the age group attending, mostly 50’s plus and they applaud and laugh showing their acceptance.  Even when the topic may be offensive, he pulls off the comic side with tongue-in-cheek brilliance.  If you have never seen him in person, then the next best thing is on DVD where you can rewind for the answer to “what did he just say?”

Lewis Black: Old Yeller has not been rated by the MPAA, but does contain language with which he freely expounds during most of the topics. Be cautious when deciding to allow immature children watch Black’s performance as it is only meant for mature adults.
