How old are you? If you are sensitive about the answer to this question you might not want to use Microsoft’s new Age Guessing app. Chances are, you’re probably a lot older than you think – or not human at all.
Microsoft introduced a new website called How-Old.net that guesses your age. And – it has become all the rage. Literally. It’s a pretty innovative piece of technology, but mainly it is just a fun way for people to waste time. It’s a selfie with a calculator – and you’re the metric being weighed and measured (well, maybe not weighed … not yet).
If you do this on your phone you upload of photo of yourself straight from your camera, or use one from your gallery (or hard drive if you are still using a desktop computer these days for this type of stuff… (you know who you are). The site uses facial recognition and other data to make an intelligent guess about your age and gender.
Sometimes the site gets it right, but most of the time it errs on either the extremely flattering or ridiculously overshoots the user’s age. Of course, some people shrug it off and have a laugh, others are not happy at all, and they are steaming about it on social networks everywhere. Here’s a few fun tweets talking about their experiences with the app. Mine? I am happy with 23, and I’ll never tell how old I am. 🙂
Screw you for grading me down a few years when I wear makeup, How Old Dot Net. You’re not my mother OR Cosmopolitan Magazine! HOW DARE YOU.
Apparently I’m 28! how old net pls don’t call the cops, my girlfriend is 17!
I swear I didn’t know she was 15 officer, how old dot net said she was 26
How old net said i was 28 … I’m 4 days away of turning 19
Jumping on the ‘How Old dot Net‘ thing and mine said it couldn’t detect a face. Um….is that worse than it telling me I’m 48?
I write like I think—fast, curious, and a little feral. I chase the weird, the witty, and the why-is-this-happening-now. From AI meltdowns to fashion glow-ups, if it makes you raise an eyebrow or rethink your algorithm, I’m probably writing about it. Expect sharp takes, occasional sarcasm, and zero tolerance for boring content.
