“MY SWEET MONSTER” Animated fun for Kids

My Sweet Monster from Lionsgate Films

Nicely animated the family film My Sweet Monster should be a welcomed attraction to youngsters. The plot is very easy to follow, the characters are not too over bearing and the action, although a bit feisty at times, should be acceptable to 8 and up. The story gets a bit familiar, but not overly so most youngsters should get entrenched pretty well.

The characters are fresh, brightly animated and the dialogue not too overwhelming for the little tykes. Caution should be taken that I found Princess Barbara quite strong minded somewhat like Princess Merida in the movie Brave.

Princess Barbara in My Sweet Monster from Lionsgate

Princess Barbara has been under the thumb of her father, the King who has been raising her daughter on his own. In the meantime the princess has been dreaming about a prince who would sweep her off her feet like Price Edward who she has read about in books. As she comes to the great hall for her birthday she finds out that the King has set UP her wedding instead to Bundy the mailman. Distraught she calls for her trusty horse Fireball who whisks her away to the other side of her realm. There, after an accidental fall off of Fireball, she awakens to a new “world” made up of animals and a semi-human beast named Bogey.

Thus begins a new life that isn’t as simple as her palace. The script calls for a number of songs that help tell the story and they are brilliant.
