Steve Aoki’s Neon Future II Out Today

Part two of Steve Aoki’s Neon Future double-album concept, Neon Future II, launched today on Dim Mak/Ultra Music. The new album is an all-star production featuring cameos from Linkin Park, Snoop Lion, Rivers Cuomo, NERVO, Matthew Koma and Moxie. It also has spoken word contributions from Interstellar executive producer and MIT professor Kip Thorne, as well as director/producer/creator J.J. Abrams and YouTube sensation/folk rock band Walk Off The Earth.

“I can’t wait for everyone to hear the sequel to Neon Future I,” AOKI recently shared with SPIN. “Putting these two albums out is the biggest feat of my career and it’s going to take you into the future and beyond!”

Steve offers fans a glimpse into what he has described as the darker, deeper, more emotional half of his Neon Future collection. Fans can check out some recent music videos of songs off the album Neon Future II. “I Love It When You Cry” with Moxie, and the captivating anthem “Darker Than Blood” featuring Linkin Park, are both great representations of the new album up on YouTube.

Steve, in conjunction with Mayor Eric Garcetti, the City of Los Angeles, and DTLA Councilmember José Huizar’s Bringing Back Broadway, announced LAoki, a free concert powered by Scion, to thank his fans and the city he loves. Happening this Saturday (May 16), in the heart of downtown, this event will take place per a street closure on Broadway between 4th and 6th Streets, allowing fans the opportunity to experience a once-in-a-lifetime concert by Aoki on release week of Neon Future II, set against the backdrop of the downtown Los Angeles skyline. Free tickets were available to fans who signed up for information regarding the Mayor’s Volunteer Corps; the event sold out in less than two hours with over 7,000 tickets claimed.

Even more, Relativity Studios will release a documentary currently titled I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead, which takes a compelling look into the life and mind of one of dance music’s most hardworking, controversial and impulsive characters. The film was shot during the making of the Neon Future double album, and it follows Aoki on his journey to play the biggest show of his career and centers around his complex yet loving relationship with his Father, the Benihana restaurant tycoon and former Olympian Rocky Aoki.

There is an eclectic supporting cast of music industry heavyweights who add color to Aoki’s fascinating life story, shed light on his high octane lifestyle, and talk about the sacrifices one must make to play over 300 shows a year. To build a restaurant empire Aoki’s father had to put business above everything else. This film asks what Aoki must sacrifice to reach the top. More information about I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead will be released soon.
