“TED K” in the Unabomber’s Words

Sharlto Copley in TED K from Decal Releasing

Concise and compelling, the film Ted K “T, Kaczynski, The Unabomber” tells the story of his adulthood in his own words from his life as a youngster, his hermitage on his properties in Colorado and Montana Mountains, to his eventual capture. Compiled from his writings by Gaddy Davis, John Rosenthal and writer director Tony Stone, the movie is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. The production is outstanding with excellent acting, editing, cinematography and a perfect measure of detail.

Bullied from very young, Ted (Sharlto Copley) could never fit into society, especially the romance he could not come to accept during his years submerged in studies a Harvard while on his way to a doctorate in Mathematics. Teaching only one year, he decides to become a hermit living in the woods away from civilization. It’s there that he brings out all his negative thoughts about America and his plan to awaken it whether it by his writings or violence.

The movie covers his everyday toil, family involvement, and plan to use bombs to show his determination to make his deeds known and the pitfalls he has to navigate. Director Tony Stone moves he film along at a nice clip so it never loses its strengths that include an excellent performance by Sharlto Copley who takes you through the man’s misguided life leading to the psychologically damage.

Ted K has been rated R by the MPAA for language, some sexual content and brief nudity. While the film does include some “Hollywood Magic” and storytelling, the film is from Ted’s diaries and includes his philosophy from his “Unabomber Manifesto”. Be advised that the movie does tend to glorify the terrorist and it may be creepy to some viewers.
