“The Crime is Mine” a Compelling Comedy

Every now and then you come across a little gem of a film that satisfies your thirst for a good mind game. No it’s not a “who done it” because you know who did it. You have heard of the phrase “a marriage of convenience”, well why not film about a “murder of convenience”. No this little murder ditty is much like the Agatha Christie type, but with a lot of comedy in between.

Gorgeous Madeleine Verdier (Nadia Tereszkiewicz) has been struggling to make it In Paris as a stage actor. She keeps missing out on roles that are perfect for her talent and beauty. Living with her lawyer friend Pauline (Rebecca Marder), who is in a similar situation of missing out on a good client, the two find themselves at a loss. After missing on getting the part in a play by the famous producer Montferrand, her future looks dim.

When Montferrand comes up dead, Madeleine and Pauline cook up a scheme to kill 2 birds with one stone. Director Francois Ozon keeps his film moving at a fast clip introducing the characters and then putting them on the road to the biggest hoax of all time. To make it even more interesting Ozon introduces Andre Bonnard, son of a famous tire maker who is worth millions, and then complicates matters when his father finds out he wants to marry an unknown actress.

The acting by Nadia Tereszkiewicz in tandem with Rebecca Marder makes for a great pairing as they bounce off the compelling and comedic dialogue. It becomes one complicated mess as it should be in order to bring a finale, although a bit predictable, to a roaring finish.
