Another Robin Hood character movie has been released. The Siege of Robin Hood, an indie film with a modest budget, puts the famous icon character through his paces. Taking the basic original storyline and with some creative writing, the film makes enough changes and surprises to avoid being hackneyed. The acting is presentable, the excitement above average and the choreography worthy of “above the bar”.
In this take on the heroic outlaw who helped the poor and downtrodden comes to grips with the Nottingham Queen and her Sherriff when Robin’s sister gets murdered. Rousing a friend, some derelicts, and the Queen’s guard Sir Lancelot, the rag tag team sets out to put an end to the Queen’s tyrannical reign of terror.

Director, actor and co-writer Paul Allica puts together some nice locations, sets, costumes and camerawork to make the film feel like its medieval times in England. His actors are up to the task of creating a lot of energy for their characters and helping to develop the plot. What’s lacking however, is brevity that would have helped the film from getting a tad lagging between scenes. That said, for the modest budget and ambitious direction, the audience target gets some nostalgic entertainment.

One of the most iconic characters of all time, Robin Hood was portrayed by some of the most famous stars including Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn, Sean Connery, Kevin Costner, and Russell Crowe among the thirty. Making a film about the forest bandit takes a lot of guts, even if it has been some time since we’ve heard from the freedom fighter. The biggest task however is getting the right actor to play Robin and with Paul Allica the swagger is there, but not the fire and daring.
The Siege of Robin Hood has been rated R for bloody violence. It also has some language and brutality.
