Probably the most famous story artist and animator in the world, Hayao Miyazaki has published his incredible book “The Influences and Inspiration behind the Iconic Films.” Not the ordinary coffee table book, but a primer, form of entertainment and amazing testimony to his Studio Ghibli and himself. Over my lifetime of watching and admiring his special talent and hard work through his animated films has been special and the book shows his greatness.

Whether you are a follower of his films, an artist, or aspiring animator this page turner is a must for your library and even a reference for most. Some will call it an inspiration, while others will use it to recall the times they sat in a movie theater or at home taking in the amazing visuals, stories, and wonders that are open to everyone from tykes to elders. Budding artists will call it a gospel and a guide to their future aspirations.

The book covers each of his films explaining the storylines and pointing out the meaning behind each. It will entice you watch the films again, whether on home video or streaming on some other online platforms. I’m sure you will realize, in most cases, that the worlds explained aren’t always perceived by you when you watched them the first time the master of art presented them. This book will enlighten and entertain.

Throughout the book are screenshots, artwork and photos relating to not only the films, but where he got most of his ideas for the images and characters. Landscapes, village transportation, houses animals and more play a big role in his stories so a bevy of colorful and exciting snapshots are included in book. Pages fly by with each section fascinating and educating building up to a finale that is bold and beautiful.

“The Influences and Inspiration behind the Iconic Films” is complete with an inspiring introduction, endnotes for photo IDs, a comprehensive index and much more. There’s so much more that it’s hard to give the book the justice it deserves. You can search for it on line or ask for it at a bookstore that should order it for you.
