Newly Signed Kreayshawn Shares Free Track and Fall Tour Dates

In case you’ve been living under a rock thousands of miles away from the Hype-heavy blogoshphere, you might have missed the fact that white female rappers are kind of awesome right now. Especially the ones who have some genuinely decent rhyming skills. Controversial though they may be, they’ve gone viral. None more successfully, more lucratively, or more quickly than the Cali-based twenty-one year old Natassia Zolot, a.k.a. Kreayshawn. So what’s all the Hype about? Read on to find out …

Her video for the infectious “Gucci Gucci” went viral in what seemed like an illi-second (reaching over 2 million views on Youtube), garnering some critical praise and landing her a major record deal with Columbia Records in a matter of weeks.

You could call her a Renaissance Woman, maybe, kind of … by some of today’s social and media standards, at least.  She’s a former film student about to take the helm of a brand new Red Hot Chilli Peppers video, “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” off of their upcoming album I’m With You (go figure). She’s also a blogger and member of her hometown rap troupe White Girl Mob. The perplexed, critics, fans, and detractors alike have a lot to say about her. All we have to say is that we are curiously anticipating a debut album. We’ll leave the arguments about her social and cultural place in the world to everybody else.

Just in case you might think “Gucci Gucci” – a satirical put-down and dismissal of ‘basic’ ‘Barbie’ b**ches who wear designer duds like Fendi and Prada among the title brand – is a disingenuous gimmick, check out the free download for the NSFW track “Rich Whores”. On it, a somewhat harder hitting Kreayshawn takes on females that spend their cash on nose candy, if you catch our meaning.

In essence, walking this tightrope of pop infused hip-hop, one foot out of K$sha’s grave of horrid nails-on-chalk-board rap-talk, and crawling quickly away into the realm of some moldable talent, we suspect Kreayshawn is not a one-trick pony. We’ll see.

She’s got some shows coming up:
