Avengers, Army Wives, Grey’s Anatomy, Chihuahua 3 Top Disney Video Releases for September

Papi and Chloe in Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3

September has been a big month for Disney Home Entertainment with the release of some of its top television and film.  This month opened with Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Eighth Season on DVD, followed by Private Practice: The Complete Fifth Season, Body of Proof: The Complete Second Season, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3, Army Wives: The Sixth Season Part 1, Desperate Housewives: The Final Season and the most awaited release of Marvel’s The Avengers. Below are a few of the titles I have critically reviewed to help you choose which ones would fit your entertainment style.

There’s not much you can say negative about Grey’s Anatomy, a television show that has made it through eight seasons with interesting medical driven plots that leave audiences hanging week after week.  The show is one of my many favorites and the continuous acting skills of the fine cast lead by Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, and Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang keep the drama, romance and laughter at high pitch on the series.  Now on 6 Disc DVD with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and widescreen 1.78:1 you become the boss with your remote control. (B Recommended)

Body of Proof has already been reviewed on this web site as a stand-alone piece so I will just give you a quick overview. I awarded the crime drama series a B (4 stars) for its creativity, acting and entertainment value.  I like this series with its many twists, most of which I didn’t see coming.  Although I found some of the stories predicable, it’s the getting to the solution that makes them enjoyable to watch.  If you’re not too squeamish about the processes of a medical examiner, dead bodies or a bloody crime scene, than it’s time you found out about this crime fighter who succeeds in identifying the suspects and getting the cases closed.

Papi and Chloe in Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3

A film for the kids and us older ‘kids’ called Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 has been release direct to Blu-ray/DVD.  If you like animal films, this live action jewel with talking dogs and voiced by famous actors should tickle your funny bone as it did mine.  Now I’m not one to admit that films like this get to me, but watching it with the younger ones makes the experience a touching one.  I love the laughter that comes from my youngest granddaughter Carolina who at 6 years old loves the campy comedy, sight gags and rude humor at which most of us adults giggle inside. But the resounding belly laughs coming from her are certainly a testimony that movies like this are what most children like to watch. The movie can also be obtained in a combo pack with the Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital copy that should suit any home entertainment system.  (B recommended for children and families)

I know what you are going to be thinking here, Marvel’s The Avengers on Blu-ray, right?  And I will tell you up front that the studio did not send me a video copy to review. But, I won’t let that stop me as I have the guts to tell you what I feel about the film and you’ll have to be the judge on whether you want it for your home entertainment.

Well they have gone all out and have created an irresistible Marvel’s The Avengers package that should blow action adventure lovers away. The September 25th street release will include the ultimate video package that includes Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy and Digital Download.  The 4 Disc combo pack has all the video (1080p with an aspect ratio of 1.78:1) and audio (dts-HD 7.1) bells and whistles along with some thin, but smartly included Extras.

I don’t have to tell you about the movie because it’s the biggest box-office winner to date amassing $1.5 billion dollars worldwide.  Why is the film so popular?  It has the perfect cast, likable characters, amazing action, and a touch of comedy in every scene.  Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, The Hulk and Black Widow are some of the most popular action heroes and they show their worth in The Avengers.  I awarded the film an A (top star count) when it was released this year on May 4th and the movie has had few equals thus far in 2012.

That wraps up what I have seen and hopefully I can pass on to you some of the others as they are shipped to me for review.
