Especially for teens, the Disney+ film Crater opens on May 24th on the streaming channel. The concept is science fiction and yet a good one for the target audience. It takes you to over 200 years in the future and the cinematography, special effects and the storyline work together to bring a tale that, who knows, could really happen in our distant future. It’s a coming of age story with some exciting adventure and lessons to be learned.
People are now living on Earth’s Moon since it has been populated and living conditions established in a special dome. The people there are actually workers who mine for special ores that will create the gas necessary to propel ships to the far away planet of Omega. There on Omega is the final stop for a new beginning of a “better” Earth.

Teens born there, Caleb Channing (Isaiah Russell-Bailey), Dylan (Billy Barratt), Borney (Orson Hong) and Marcus (Thomas Boyce), and a new arrival from Earth, Addison (Mckenna Grace) are among the many youngsters on the Moon colony. Following the death of his father, Caleb is told he will be the next person that will join others on a relocation transport to Omega. With a yearning to visit the forbidden “Crater” on the Moon before he gets shipped out, his friends convince Caleb that they should take a risky road trip to the hole in the Moon. Under the guise of a meteor shower expected to hit, they sneak out of the dome on a rover.

The film is a good one for teens that has some very good elements that point out dangers, dealing with obstacles and the meaning of friendship. Crater has been rated PG by the MPAA for thematic material, action/peril and language.
