“DON’T WORRY DARLING” a Psychological Thriller

Florence Pugh in “Don’t Worry Darling,” from New Line Cinema

Nicely twisted, the movie Don’t Worry Darling takes you into the heart of a neighborhood and treats you to a world of lust and discipline. Not your ordinary run-of-the-mill movie about married life, director and actress Olivia Wilde turns an experiment into to a wicked lifestyle.

Jack Chambers (Harry Styles) has hit the big time and his wife Alice (Florence Pugh can’t believe the wonderful life she is now living. Their house is ideal for what they dreamed and Jack’s job at the Victory Project has been nothing but stellar. The private community has a number of associates and their wives are devoted to their husbands even though they are not privy to what the project is all about.

Their leader and founder of Victory Project is Frank (Chris Pine) who keeps everyone happy with special parties and most everything the citizens need. But, not all is perfect and Margaret (Kiki Layne), one of the wives who has befriended Alice, is a bit out of sorts. Thus begins a challenge that may put the whole community in Doubt.

While Wilde does do an excellent job of leading her cinematographer into a pristine realm exquisitely showing a very rich enclave, she cannot hide the expected twists and her finale leaves a lot to be desired. Even if you are an experienced moviegoer it may leave you uncertain. But don’t let that stop you for going to see the film as most women should enjoy the fashions, upscale existence, handsome cast and even the excitement of a bit of revenge. The guys will probably be a bit off put by the storyline and slippery Frank who runs the Victory Project, but will certainly be dazzled by the perfect wives’ awesome beauty.

Don’t Worry Darling has been rated R for sexuality, violent content and language. It also contains some brutality and gore. The film may have some similarity to the movie The Stepford Wives, and you would be right if you had seen the 2004 film. There is a difference however, and the final 40 minutes will probably change your mind.
