Completing its Ninth year and counting Grey’s Anatomy enters the Home Video market with the DVD release. With each year seeming to get better the cast holds its own with great performances in most all the compelling episodes.  Even though I’m a sucker for medical shows the romance level and comical moments are a big part of making Grey’s Anatomy a must watch for me.  Whether you have watched the many years of the award winning show or are a newbie, this 6 disc set will get you hooked on the doctors, nurses, interns and patients at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital.

The cast makes the show eventful and very movie like within the 24 episodes from September 27, 2012 to May 16, 2013.  Each week another captivating medical problem, continued romances, some steamy rendezvous and disagreements with most all the characters on the show.  This year outdoes the last with fine writing, direction and filming of the show that makes it an even better second watch.

In this season experience the unlikely with a surprise pregnancy, loss of limb by a major character, an unexpected lawsuit, the recovery from the death of some of the staff in the plane crash that ended season 8, and a surprise new head of hospital that sends chills through the employees.  This and so much more can be lived and relived with your trusty DVD/Blu-ray player and you television controller.  I’m sure you will be hitting that rewind but with a ‘say what’ now and then also.

The video quality of the DVD is very good and presented in HD 16×9 with an aspect ratio of the original showings of 1.78:1.  Clear and clean the shows are very colorful, startling, and chilling at times using excellent camera work and lighting.

The audio quality using the Dolby Digital 5.1 allows the dialogue to come across easily understood.  From STAT to grunts and groans they all play a part of the action in one of the busiest hospitals on television.

There are even some Bonus features that include the following:

  • “Finale Extended Episode” The producers have added more of the last episode from the ninth season to tantalize your brain for upcoming season Ten.
  • “Spotlight Cast Piece: Jim Pickens, Jr.” A short take on the doctor that adds some interesting facts you didn’t know about him.
  • “Spotlight Character Piece: Arizona Robbins” There’s more to the pediatric surgeon than meets the eye.
  • “Deleted Scenes” Just what we need after 1032 min, more drama.
  • “Outtakes”

Grey’s Anatomy has been rated TV14 DLS for drugs, language and sexual situations (and also some gore) so be cautious when deciding to allow immature children see the series as it does have some scenes that may be inappropriate for them.
