A famous script writer Leonor has not been able to get her act together for another screenplay. One day while standing below the windows of her city housing she gets hit on the head with a TV set that falls from above. As she works her way out of a coma she starts to visualize her newest movie script. Getting deeper into the story we find her hero, Ronwaldo, avenging his brother’s murder. When she starts to involve herself in the case, thing start to get dicey.

Director and writer Martika Ramirez Escobar goes over the top with his story with a bit of comedy mixing with the action drama. Much like the first sound films of the past we hear the gunshots as a “pow” while Leonor’s star fights off the bad guys. Leonor Will Never Die is a bit of nostalgia and it works here. The Philippines release reminds me of many of the current foreign films being released in America like “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once” and “Parasite”. Like those however, they are candy for Hollywood cinefiles and most film critics, but may not really be entertaining for mainstream audiences. This could be the case for Leonor Will Never Die, even though the quirkiness does hold your interest.
