‘Living’ All is Not for Naught

As we become older we realize that we spend most of our time doing the same thing over and over. Going to work and then coming home to continue the same events day in and day out.  Missing out on what is out there that we never get the chance to experience.

Taking place in 1953 London, Mr Williams (Bill Nighy) find’s out disturbing news from his doctor, where he decides to experience life in a different way. With great lengths he avoids telling mostly everyone including his son, Michael Williams (Barney Fishwick), and his wife Fiona Willams (Patsy Ferran). When three women approach the city Public Works department about turning a back alley into a kids park, Mr Williams goes at an extended length to make sure the proposed park is completed.

The Public Works Department consists of Mr. Williams, manager and boss, along with co-workers and employees, Margaret Harris (Aimee Lou Wood), Mr. Middleton (Adrian Rawlins) , Mr. Peter Wakeling (Alex Sharp), Mr. Rusbridger (Hubert Burton) , and Mr. Hart (Oliver Chris). They spend a normal day looking through bills, orders, and proposals. As for the proposals most get shelved until there is a time to consider these important.

Director Oliver Hermanus gives an obscure look at how people can react after receiving bad news and what a shy timid person will do when struggling to tell the ones he loves and works with. Oliver draws an excellent presentation on the torment and anguish a person will endure to discover what they are really searching for.

This special story tells us how precious life can be, especially when you know there is not much time left. Leaving a lasting impression on the world you live in can become an important factor to most when they get such devastating news. This tale gives you a look into how hard it can be to factor what you truly want in life.

Final Comment: I based my grade on a wonderful storyline and fantastic performance by all.

Stars 3.5 out of 5
