ONE MILE: CHAPTERS ONE AND TWO

Ryan Phillippe and Amélie Hoeferle in ONE MILE CHAPTER one

Creating havoc into excitement, the two chapter movie One Mile releases on Digital. Each film runs about 90 minutes and part one establishes the characters, sets the violent theme, while chapter two completes the plot. But if there needs an explanation as to why the producers wanted the second chapter can only be described by the idiom “it’s not over until it’s over”. Second guessing Director Adam Davidson and writers TJ Brady, Rasheed Newson and John Hlavin on why make two is way above common sense. Maybe if Chapter 1 and 2 would have been condensed into one 2 1/2 hour showing it probably would have been a better film for it.

Danny Beckett (Ryan Phillippe), a Special Forces retiree and divorcee, has been trying to become a better father since he gave up his dream to be a 30 year veteran. However, his daughter Alex (Amélie Hoeferle) is in the midst of entering college and has a different outlook about family due to long periods of not hearing from her father during her formative years. Deciding to take her to check out colleges in the boondocks for her possible enrollment, they set out trying to get to know each other better. Making a decision to camp out on the way to one of the colleges they run into a society that deals in child trafficking. When Alex is noticed at the camping ground and gets snatched, Danny goes berserk on a trail to get her back. So begins Chapter one that will expand into a revenge genre movie in chapter two.

While the sets and locations are especially good, the story is very predictable from the first scene to its violent ending in both chapters. Ryan Phillippe does his usual best in spite of the jaded script and mediocre fighting choreography. But I am nicely surprised by the ability of Amélie Hoeferle as the distraught daughter who has to escape from the nasty hillbilly’s. Both seem to be able to easily recover from some rough bloody contact however, but looked like the laundry and costumers must have been in overdrive as the two had unusually clean clothing throughout.

One Mile: Chapters one and two has been rated R by the MPAA for strong violence and language. For diehard Phillippe fans, the film should bode well, but action junkies may be very disappointed.
