You’d think this grindhouse killer fest would be top billed for Halloween, but the producers have released Spare Parts on the first day of summer releases. Horror fans should be itching to wrap their heads around the film now available on VOD, Digital, Blu-ray or DVD. Beware however, the film is not for those who are faint of heart or get queasy with the sight of blood and guts.
After a bad night playing at bar that ended in a brawl, an all-female metal band, Amy (Michelle Argyris), Emma (Emily Alatalo), Cassy (Kiriana Stanton) and Jill (Chelsea Muirhead) hit the highway for their next gig. Along the way their van gets attacked by a reckless driver. A near collision and a tire blow-out ends the conflict and the girls find themselves stranded.
A county Sheriff pulls up just as a tow truck finishes lifting their van on to his trailer and he gives the four women a ride. Arriving at a recycling facility, the girls find that it was no coincidence that they had the run-in. The yard manager, Daniel, takes the girls into his office to fill out the paperwork, but it’s not long before they are in an operating room where being set up for something that even the gladiators in Colosseum in Rome would not have imagined.
The film gets very nasty and bloody when the girls have to entertain The Emperor (Julian Richings) and his audience for their twisted pleasure in a make shift arena. Director Andrew Thomas Hunt makes his film look as brutal as the warped storyline. His actors are top notch in their depiction of the Metal Head band and later in the ring against impossible odds. As a producer, Hunt has been a part of several Horror Thrillers like Trench 11, Dead Shack, and Sky Sharks.
