Stirring, graphic, intriguing The Killing Season 1 originally aired on AMC is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. This powerful thriller had me captivated from the first chapter to its cunning ending. If you want to know what it’s all about with the new season starting this spring, then pick it up at your nearest retailer.
The story centers on the murder of Rosie Larson a young woman found in the trunk of a car at the bottom of a lake with a mystery as to who did it. On the case is a detective Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) a long time veteran of the Seattle police on her last day. In fact, she was about to leave the city when the call came in about the murder. Somehow being drawn to the case, she puts her private life on temporary hold to solve it. Her replacement, Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) finds himself trying to second guess why Sarah has chosen to hang on as the case drags on from one blind lead to another.
The weekly episodes take a lot of twists and turns, resolve suspects, and bring the viewer closer to getting all the answers. The Killing plays out like a good book or extended movie, absorbing and fascinating.
What I like most about The Killing on Blu-ray (or DVD) is that you don’t have to wait until the next week for a new chapter. I found myself engrossed so much in the fine acting and storyline that I blew through the first five chapters in one evening. But, that’s just me. You may want to savor each episode and try to out think the detectives as they search out the evidence and work on rounding up the suspects.
The DVD box 4-disc set, and the Blu-ray 3-disc set, contain all 13 episodes, including an extended season finale that was not aired on AMC. The Blu-ray/DVD shows nicely though my Blu-ray player with a sharp picture that fills the entire screen of my TV.
