Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, the low budget The Last House turns a horror flick into an insipid nightmare. Trying to be creative director Sean Cain uses a quick flash back technique that confuses his audience by chopping up scenes making the storyline a travesty. A waste of a good budget, special effects and make up, this horror film isn’t even that good on DVD.
Lonely and wanting a relationship he can control Ned (Jason Mewes) has been having sex with Love (Felissa Rose), a prostitute, on a regular basis. He tells Love that he wants her to quit the business and live with him. Love likes Ned enough to tell her pimp Sonny (Jack Forcinito) that she wants out. He tells her she may have a deal if she takes one last outcall that will make him big money. She agrees and along with to other hookers Jenna (Alexis Zibolis) and Hailey (Jeanine Daniels) go to a house from where the tryst was ordered. There they meet Hate (Ezra Buzzington), Candy (Joanne Angel) and Cleb (Ricardo Gray) a sinister looking trio who have more than sex in mind.

From here on out it’s a blood bath of sorts that provides the horror and carnage for most fans of the genre. Director Sean Cain with more than 50 terror flicks under his belt did not write the script, but makes me wonder why he took it on at all. The jumbled cinematography that you can easily see being clipped and edited in post-production may even have been out of Cain’s hands by then, but not really as revealed in the bonus features. I guess the producers were more centered on the blood and guts to notice how ludicrous the process made their film and thought they could get away with a well-made trailer that should attract their audience.

The special effects and make-up department worked overtime getting some very gory and gruesome scenes. For this alone the film is worth it for budding crew members who want to get a few tips on slash, cut and dice.
BONUS FEATURES: The film does have bonus features for students of film.
