Now out on VOD the film The Lonely Crowd takes a chance on getting viewership streaming this crime thriller drama. While the cinematography for the low budget does play well on the home screen, the storyline needed some excitement. By that I mean the choreography, timing and action are dull and common. However, if your nighttime TV has run out of good films, then this one would be worth a look. Oh, and there is a romantic theme treaded throughout the movie.
Former baseball pitcher Peter’s (Adam Wesley) life after fame has hit bottom trying to find a lady who would recharge him from loneliness. Using a dating website, he notices a very pretty Ashley (Taylor Anne Danehower) who agrees to a date. At the restaurant things don’t go too well and they separate. In the meantime, Ashley’s former beau Jake (Giancarlo Carmona) breaks out of jail while serving a term for robbery and heads straight for Ashley who was part of the gigs team who knows where the cash is hidden. So unfolds is a story of cat and mouse when Peter decides to help Ashley escape from danger.
The film drags on with a lot of scene changes as director and writer David St. Clair inserts action and drama off and on. The locations are common with a minimum of costume changes and different characters popping in and out at every turn. The conflicts have little emphasis on the story even in danger scenes where Ashley and Peter are being hunted in a scraped car junkyard.
The Lonely Crowd has not been rated by the MPA, but contains violence with gore, language, and gun play. Think a soft PG-13 when deciding to allow youngsters to watch the movie.
