Relentless and adventurous, The Princess is a high energy non-stop kingdom of excitement. When it was all over, I just said WOW. Now on HULU, although the title of the film gives the initial impression that it’s a Disney Kids film, it’s not. The action is fast and furious with a lot of sword penetrations and a bloody mess at times.

Imprisoned in a room in a high tower, the Princess (Joey King) is being held until she will be forced to marry Julius (Dominic Cooper) head of the merciless Merc. Julius and his cohort Moira (Olga Kurylenko) want to take over the kingdom from the Princess’s father, The King (Ed Stoppard).

Distraught and wanting to end her captivity, Princess decides to take action by fighting her way down the tall tower and unleashing her aggressive skills and cunning ability on the Merc guards. Director Le-Van Kiet makes the film a virtual fight to the finish as he guides his actors from the top of the tower through its many chambers. Its nonstop action with a lot of sword play and any defense weapon the Princess can get in her hands. He even puts in some cool twists that you won’t see coming.

In her first major leading role, Joey King (The Kissing Booth, The Lie) pulls off an exciting performance as the Princess who refuses to give up. Her roll calls for a lot of violent and bloody fighting and she puts together a character well worth watching. It is a hoot seeing her go from a princess gown to rags as she defends herself against a whole army of Merc guards.

The Princess has been Rated R by the MPAA for strong/bloody violence and some language. There’s also a few sordid scenes that may be offensive to some as well. It wasn’t meant for anyone under 17, but if your teen is mature enough it should work for them as well. I recommend the film for both male and female teens to 20’s. It’s now streaming on HULU.
