WonderCon 2019, a Mega Meetup of Fans & Celebs

While not as big as the world famous ComiCon San Diego, this year’s WonderCon in Anaheim was packed with fans, vendors and celebs.  For journalists covering the event, it was a busy two days of photo sessions and interviews. Here’s just a sampling of my racehorse schedule:

First came interview with the cast of NOS4A2, the new supernatural horror series coming to AMC. The series follows Vic McQueen, a girl who finds lost objects by racing through a long dark bridge that transports her to the object she’s looking for. Vic encounters Charles Talent Manx, who takes children for a ride in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith (the title of the book comes from the car’s vanity plate). Manx takes the children to an otherworldly place known as Christmasland. Vic tangles with Manx, who seems to feed on the children he steals.

NOS4A2 team: Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ashleigh Cummings, executive producer/author Joe Hill, showrunner/writer Jami O’Brien, Zachary Quinto, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Jahkara Smith.

Then my roundtable interview with the cast of Fear the Walking Dead, seen below hamming it up for a line shot Returning for a fifth season. the group will locate survivors and make what’s left of the world a better place. Morgan Jones leads the group with a philosophy rooted in benevolence, community, and hope. Each character believes helping others will help atone for the wrongs of their pasts.

Next up, my riotous interview with Felicia Day and her crew of Voyage to the Stars. The new podcast combines sci-fi adventures and humor and features a talented cast of writers and comedians.

Writer/creator Ryan Copple, Janet Varney, Steve Berg, Felicia Day and Colton Dunn

Next came interviews with the cast of Marvel Rising, the animated series of superheroes dedicated to saving the planet.

Milana Vayntrub, Kathreen Khavari, Kamil McFadden, Sofia Wylie, and Cort Lane, Executive Producer.

Next up, interviews with the cast of Cobra Kai, for all those fans who always wanted to know what happened to Danny and Johnny as the grew into adults. Yes, they’re still competing, but on many different levels.

William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence) Cobra Kai

Jacob Bertrand (Eli “Hawk”) Cobra Kai

Xolo Marideuna (Miguel Diaz) Cobra Kai

And what ‘con’ would be complete without talking to the head honchos at Agents of SHIELD as it gets ready to kick off season 6.

Henry Simmons (‘Mack’ Mackenzie) and Clark Gregg (Coulson)

Finally, there was my laugh-filled interview with the cast of Relics & Rarities. Set in a mysterious curio shop, creator Deborah Ann Woll brings a unique twist to the world of Dungeons & Dragons with gripping storytelling and arcane objects.

Jasmine Bhullar, Deborah Ann Woll and Julia Dennis.

Stay tuned for my video interviews of these guests in soon-to-come posts on this site. Oh, and some fans who really get into the ‘con’ spirit:
