“Another Wolfcop” Taking a Bite Out of Crime

Actually I was waiting for Lowell Dean to release his first sequel in The Wolfcop franchise and now that he has, his fan base should be asking for episode 3. Well if you pick up the Blu-ray/DVD you’ll find the answer to that when the credits of the film roll to conclusion. As for Another Wolfcop, the film is actually more of the same, but different sets and time period. But, more of the same for fans of the first one, that’s a very good thing.

Its Christmas season in Woodhaven so the robbers are out in force in the small town. As the first scene unfolds we find Lou “Wolfcop” Garou (Leo Fafard) taking down some very bad guys with shattering results. Much to the chagrin of Chief Tina (Amy Matysio), who has taken over the top cop position since last we saw her, she reminds Lou that being a werewolf can have devastating results.

But there’s also a new mayor in town Mayor Bubba (Kevin Smith) and he’s proud of the new Ice Rink and Brewery facility that has added sports and a lot of hot babes. Owned by Sidney Swallows (Yannick Bisson), he’s brought a new brew to the town called Chicken Milk Beer and it’s a popular drink at the local strip joint Club Phoque.  Things start to change in town quickly with aliens arriving in a very strange way. When ex-cop Willie Higgins comes back from the dead and grows a strange talking member, everything becomes a nightmare including a fight for survival in the hockey rink.

Director, writer and creator Lowell Dean pulls off a wicked second try with so much carnage, depravity and pervasive acts that would only be found in number 2 (pun intended). He even tops his first outing with a wacky  hockey audience hatching some of the grossest visuals ever used in a movie.

Heads roll, bodies get bared and bullets fly with a heavy metal soundtrack blaring from hot high energy instrumentals and foul language rap. It’s a feast for followers of  The Wolfcop and I’m sure for them the Blu-ray will be flying out the door of many a department store and on line sites. Several scenes use so much gushing blood (fake of course, but a sick mixture that resembles the real life maintaining juice), that when someone mentions bloodbath in Another Wolfcop you have to through in a shower to boot.

Speaking of the soundtrack Another Wolfcop features the following; “(You’re a) Strange Animal” performed by Lawrence Gowan, “O’ Come All Ye Faithful” by performed by Twisted Sister, “Pigs and Donuts” and “Bad Willie” Performed by Thorax, “Nitro” and “It Don’t Seem Right” performed by Public Animal, “Pants Party” performed by X-Ray Cat Trio and “The Wolfcop” performed by Evil Ebenezer and Factor.

Leo Fafard reprises his role as the ugly hairy Woodhaven police officer that had been bitten in The Wolfcop. He has so many prostheses, layers of hair, and ugly makeup that it’s impossible to know if the actor is really under the meticulously applied costume. But I’ve been assured, yep it’s Fafard. And, unlike many film’s today, not a bit of CGI (or at least it’s not mentioned in the cast credits).

I like Amy Matysio as Tina the new out of her league police chief. Having had a crush on Lou, she lets him get away with murder, even though she’s supposed to have him under control. Smartly, knowing booze turns him into a raving killer, turning him to drink may save the day no matter what the collateral damage may be. She shows that she can be a tough cookie in several scenes, especially when her brother Willie (Jonathan Cherry) gets out of hand.

A new character Kat, played by Serina Miller, is on board and becomes Tina’s nemesis after she does the nasty with Lou. Turning into a “werecat” she helps the team stave off the alien scourge that’s upon them. Also new is Deputy Daisy played by Beverly Jacobs. She may be a rookie, but she can handle the heat when she finds herself caught up in a crossfire.

Another Wolfcop, like its forerunner, has not been rated by the MPAA, but contains foul language, disturbing images, extreme violence, nudity, gore, brutality, drug use and sex. I hope I didn’t leave anything out, oh yeah, underage drinking and vomiting and other vile acts.

FINAL ANALYSIS: If you liked the original The Wolfcop or the  cable series “Ash and the Evil Dead”, this is your cup of blood. (3.5 out of 5 Stars)
