Kind of wild and crazy for those who like smartly written comedy that has an ethnic based storyline. Taking a shot at the Jewish day of rest, Shabbat, it’s not exactly good wholesome fun when it includes an untimely death. There have been several films with the Saturday night theme, but this one takes the cake. Let’s not get ahead of the story as this little ditty gets funnier as it moves along at a swift pace.
On this one Saturday night engaged David (Jon Bass), a Jewish boy, and Meg (Meghan Leathers) his Catholic fiancée, have made arrangements to have a parent’s get-together. But being Shabbat, other members of David’s family have showed up at the gathering. Mostly Jewish, the group members are split on whether it’s going to be a perfect soiree. Well, the evening starts out with a bang, on the head that is, when Abby’s boyfriend has a fatal freak accident.
So begins Director and co-writer Daniel Robbins’s hilarious evening of unpredictable situation comedy. The mix of family beliefs create a lot of banter along with the others cockamamie circumstances making the show a winner. Casted perfectly, each character has a story to tell, and a fun one at that.
Bad Shabbos is now playing a select theaters and is not rated. The film contains smoking, drug use, language, smoking and naughty references.
