Wild, screwy and just plain evil, the movie Cocaine Bear has reached home video in a Maximum Rampage extended edition Blu-ray and DVD. While the film is a low budget indie movie, it does have some very remarkable special effects, aggressive cinematography, and some very wicked surprises. The acting by Margo Martindale as the Forest Ranger jumps the comedy meter to top level in a not to be missed performance. All that said, the movie targets an older audience with its R rating that contains some very nasty bloody violence.
A freak accident sends a hundreds of pounds of cocaine falling from an airplane flown by an addict pilot high on his own stuff. In the woods where bears are prevalent, one momma bear gets a mouthful of the white dust and it send her over the edge on a rampage to find more of the drug. Anyone in its way is toast and the film has a lot of both deliberate and accidental death to entertain the target audience.
Just a lot of off the chain fun, the plot may not be perfect having many holes that needed to be filled, but Director Elizabeth Banks gets, well, away with murder in this presentation. Some scenes appear out of nowhere followed by a trail of informational cuts that probably would have made the film longer than needed. But, the Blu-ray has it all put together with than neded missing parts so you won’t miss a moment of grisly torn off limbs, gnarled bodies and headless (oh that’s quite enough of an idea on where this film is going.)

Cocaine Bear has been Rated R for bloody violence and gore, drug content and language throughout. I actually like the film for its silly diversion from the ordinary and a lot of “Oh did that just happen” content. 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
