“GOTHAM: THE FALL AND RISE of NEW YORK” on VOD

New York City, New York is ranked 10th in population in the world coming in at about 19 plus million. With that number of people the control gets out of hand easily. In the 1980’s however, the city had dropped into a living standards danger zone. Mostly by problems caused by lack of leadership. The documentary Gotham: The Fall and Rise of New York takes a look at the history connected from when it plunged with miserable crime statistics in the 1990’s and early 2000’s to when it was finally brought under control by two of the city’s greatest Mayors. It’s more of a biography of sorts that sets the record straight about one of the utmost cities in the world pre 2008 recession and pre covid19.

Now on VOD the film is really a long story that, although holds your attention, could have been shortened somewhat to make it much better. The buildup deals with early mayors and police chiefs who got crime solving going in the wrong direction. It led to the election of Rudy Giuliani, taking over as mayor with his historic changes and ideas of getting crime under control.
