Looking for a good action flick with lots of adventure that brings you through the world of espionage and the spy game, then this one’s for you. This journey brings this young new character into a world that she is unfamiliar with and must find a way to get out alive. Needing to discover her new surroundings she finds out that she always had what it took to survive in this new realm.
After losing her mother Maya (Phoebe Dynevor) she runs into her estranged father, Sam (Rhys Ifans) after many years. He tries to convince her to go to Cairo to accompany him, while on his real estate ventures, in hopes that she would follow in his footsteps to sell foreign properties. Her sister, Jess (Kersti Bryan), warns her that he is hiding something and that she should not go on the trip. Not taking her advice, Maya accompanies her father on this upcoming escapade.
While on their exploration, Maya begins to find out that her father may not be what he claims. She confronts him about his past and he explains that for most of his career when Maya was young, he was a former foreign correspondent for the United States dealing with information. Now travelling the globe to discover her father’s past, she finds herself moving from New York, Cairo, New Delhi, and Seoul, forcing her to run from the dangers she now faces.
Developing a tale with mystery and discovery puts Director Neil Burger on the spot to make sure this new masterpiece will grab the audience’s attention. Burger does that and more, having his main character travel from exotic lands that include India’s New Delhi, South Korea’s Seoul and Egypt’s Cairo, performing a successful accomplishment full of excitement. There are many amazing stunts that include interesting camera angles, including one from the scooter used to perform some of the wild driving scenes. These up-close face shots during these adventurous scenes, as well as, the dramatic ones, give you a true look at the actor’s expressions and reactions, to the action they are portraying.
This excellent story involves deceit, treachery, and deception, which launches our hero all over the globe trying to save her father. A fun and entertaining tour of two continents brings things to perspective for our protagonist. Allowing all of us to have an enjoyable quest through the visions brought to us upon the silver screen.
Final Comment: I based my grade on the fun theatrical storyline that was built into a masterpiece and a spectacular performance by the cast.
