Charming and most of the time enjoyable to watch, the film Jane Austen Wrecked My Life has been released in theaters. While the premise is good, it does get a bit familiar and for those who may have seen a lot of romantic tales like this one, may find it to be farfetched. That said, if you need a good reminder that lighting both ends of the candle usually may not end well, then this is right for you.

Relationships and thoughts of her future as a writer have dampened the life of Agathe (Camille Rutherford) who hit the proverbial ceiling on a book she wants to write. After attending a class to open up an avenue in a possible plot, she finds it’s just not doing it for her. However, her instructor differs and makes her an offer of joining a Jane Austen consortium on the famous writer’s property to try and pull her out of her writer’s block. Long time suitor Felix (Pablo Pauly) realizing her dilemma is supportive of the offer even though it will take her away for some time.
Arriving at the dock at her destination she is greeted by Oliver (Charlie Anson) the great great great nephew of Jane Austen who drives her to the estate. There she meets a group of established writers who form the consortium. Thus begins Director and writer Laura Piani’s scrumptious tale of challenge, realizations and affairs for her main character Agathe. Nicely acted and the sets/locations make the film a page turner so to speak, as Agathe runs the maze of writing, friendships and her future. Even though the film stumbles a bit, it does fit nicely into an afternoon delight.

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life has been rated R by the MPAA for language, some sexual content and nudity.
