MISTURA is Delightful

A scene from Mistura from Outsider Pictures

A special foreign film involving a determined high society woman that sets aside her personal problems to open a restaurant in her home in Peru has reached the shores of the USA. The premise does sound similar to films of this genre you may have seen before, but the production value, content and performances make Mistura a delightful mix of food and a life changing resurrection.

Its New Year’s Eve 1965 at the Country Club of Lima, Peru and Norma Piet (Barbara Mori) has just been dumped by her husband Roberto (Christian Meier) for socialite and the daughter of his business partner Amelia Bayly. Totally caught unaware she retreats to her high society home only to find out the next day that Roberto has left her with no money to pay the mortgage. With little chance of saving the homestead she gets support from Oscar (César Ballumbrosio), her driver, her housekeeper Rosa (Hermelinda Lujan) and a recipe book left by her deceased father.

When Norma decides to open a Bistro using her home for the restaurant, she takes on a challenge that could easily flop. Similar storylines has been used in several different films about food, but writer and director Ricardo de Montreuil changes it up nicely to provide a compassionate and compelling “love” story that delivers. With a fine cast led by trio of fine actors in Barbara Mori, Cesar Ballumbrosio and Hermelinda Lujan, the film works and wins.
