Moving to Nashville? What You Need to Know

Nashville has long been known as Music City, and it’s a fantastic place to play, work and live. However, you might not know that there’s a rapidly growing food scene, amazing destinations for shopping, and an endless variety of opportunities for you to be more active. Combine all of these advantages with the affordability of its housing and friendly Nashville population, and it’s a cinch to see why this city isn’t just drawing – it’s retaining – vast numbers of newcomers.

If you still need a bit of convincing, keep reading to learn a bit more about this city and learn a few things if you plan to move here.

Neighborhoods and Vibes

Each of the neighborhoods in Nashville has its own distinct vibe. This is important to keep in mind if you’re looking for furnished apartments in Nashville, TN. Just as an example, Hillsboro village and East Nashville tend to draw masses of hipsters because of their nightlife spots, while Green Hills and Belle Meade are better known for being wealthier. This means that it’s always going to be a good idea to do a bit of research before you sign that lease or buy a home.

Fashion Scene

You might have noticed it on the country soap opera Nashville, but this is really a fashion-forward locale. When it comes to shopping, there are more than enough options, too. For those who don’t mind parting with a paycheck or two, head over to the Mall at Green Hills. However, for those on a tighter budget, you might want to check out any of the boutiques that are locally owned and are spread out across the city.

Healthcare

Most people might not realize that the area Nashville is situated in is quite a hot spot for healthcare. The area claims to be home to over 300 different companies in the field, and this includes companies like the HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) and Vanguard Health Systems.

Pro Sports

For those who aren’t really into the professional sports scene, you’ll still want to have at least a passing familiarity with the Predators and the Titans. The NFL team for this city, the Titans, plays in the Nissan Stadium. The NHL team that calls Nashville home, the Predators, uses the ice at the Bridgestone Arena.

Live Music

In addition to the prerequisite honky-tonks that you can find on Lower Broadway, there are probably more entertainment venues than you might think, and they host shows nearly every night. You can find small venues like 3rd & Lindsley and The Basement as well as larger venues like the Bridgestone Arena which allow for Nashville to host some of the best performers in the entire world.

Boots and Cowboy Hats

You’ll likely come to find that most of the people you see wearing boots and cowboy hats are tourists. This is especially true when you notice them downtown, but it’s actually true regardless of where you are in the city. You’ll need to remember this when one of the salespeople in any of the tourist shops attempts to talk you into handing over that cash you worked so hard for in exchange for a 10-gallon hat and a pair of boots.

Finally, keep the weather in mind. It isn’t uncommon for the city to have nice weather in January but then experience weather that’s near freezing in March. You just never know, so the smarter people tend to wear layers and it never hurts anyone to pay close attention to the weather reports before leaving their house for the day.
