“Night Hunter” A Pathological Chiller

Exciting and gripping, the maniacal thriller Night Hunter takes you into the world of a serial killer who has evaded the police. It’s one of those nicely paced action films that keeps you glued to your seat, so make sure you are in a comfy chair when you plop the Blu-ray into the player. It’s also a very cool mystery that lays out the smartly hidden clues keeping you wondering to the very end of this diabolical story.

Detective Walter Marshall (Henry Cavill) investigate the case of a body of a young girl found in the back of a semi. The gruesome scene shows signs that the woman had been tied up prior to her death. Classifying it a homicide, he begins to wonder if it has a connection with some missing women. At the same time ex judge Michael Cooper (Ben Kingsley) has been tracking down predators that have been using the internet to have sex with young girls. His young streetwise partner and decoy Lara (Eliana Jones) has been the lure and she’s good at it.

Brendan Fletcher as Simon in NIGHT HUNTER from Saban Films

Although Marshall and Cooper are working separately, they are headed for a meeting of the minds when the two cross paths. Director and writer David Raymond does a very good job with his plot spooling it out at a nice pace and getting his audience to feel the pain and agitation of the main characters. He adds criminal profiler Rachel Chase (Alexandra Daddario) to his story to work on the psychological angle explaining the suspect’s disturbing personality during interrogation Simon Stulls (Brendan Fletcher).

The story comes at you from all angles and the performances of the main characters really keep you guessing while they work their roles into a frenzy. Leading the pack is Henry Cavill as the no-nonsense detective that digs through evidence trying to understand the dangerous looking Simon Stulls. In addition to all the chaos in his job he’s dealing with a teen of his own who is putting herself out on the social networks. It’s a very good role for Cavill, and much better than his interpretation of Superman in the movie Batman v Superman: Dawn Justice. In his next film Enola Holmes, Cavill gets to play Sherlock Holmes opposite the star sensation Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes. She’s the up and coming newbie that has captivated everyone in the Netflix series Stranger Things.

Ben Kingsley as Cooper and Henry Cavill as Marshall in NIGHT HUNTER from Saban Films

Playing the suspect in this thriller, Brendan Fletcher takes you into his scary world and never lets you go. It’s probably his best performance ever pretending to be the out of control accused killer that has criminal profiler Rachel Chase in doubt. It’s his performance that really makes the film work.

Night Hunter has not been rated, but contains violence, gore, language, brutality, and disturbing images. Be cautious when deciding to allow immature persons to watch the film as it does have some very frightening and intimidating scenes.

FINAL ANALYSIS: a very good film for thriller fans. (4 out of 5 Stars)
