The Importance of Correct Posture on Health

“Sit Straight; Don’t lean on the chair too much”. Aren’t these the words that most of us have grown up hearing? However, whoever said this, was right. A good posture is as important as a healthy diet in everyone’s lifestyle. It is necessary for the right balance. Standing up straight, sitting with your back straight or even the correct driving posture are all very important for your health. Although there is a cure to bad posture, the long-term side effects can never be eliminated to the core. Such as, back problems, back pain and even a permanent hunch back are all caused by an incorrect posture.

Moreover, there are several reasons behind a bad posture.

  1. When your muscles are inflexible, the range of motion is decreased. For instance, if your hip muscles are shortened and tight, it can tug your upper body, disrupting your posture. Chest muscles which are overly tight can also mess up your posture.
  2. There are a lot of things that can affect the strength of your muscles, such as weak core muscles. They encourage slouching, tipping your body forward and making it off balance.
But, the good news is that your posture can be improved with certain exercises and to motivate you into doing so, here are a few reasons why you should worry about your posture.

Depicts the Better in You

Your posture has a great effect on your ability to walk, run or doing any other physical activities. You will be astonished by the fact that the shape of your body improves drastically just by correcting your posture.

Since a correct posture while sitting or doing any other work relives the tension in your muscles, you will feel much better and fresh even after an entire day in the same position. So, if you ever feel tired and exhausted after a long day, you can blame it on your posture.

Better Breathability

Yes, it’s true. A bad posture has a great effect on your breathing as well. Sitting in a position that is wrinkled can constrict your airway, making it very difficult to catch your breath. A hunch back can also disrupt the natural position of your ribcage, adding extra pressure to your lungs. Moreover, anyone who has a history of panic attacks should take this seriously because shortness of breath is one of the main complains and a poor posture can make it worse.

Prevent Injuries

Too much pressure on your joints can eventually damage the connective tissues. It causes your bone to rub against each other, which may lead to diseases such as inflammation of the joints. Poor posture also affects your spine, increasing the likeliness of a slipped disc or a trapped nerve.

Better Digestion

Slouching has a negative effect on your body because it pressurizes your internal organs, making digestion difficult. Medical problems such as acid reflux, constipation and hernia are due to a poor posture.

Hence it has been proven that your posture greatly affects your health.
