The Tomorrow People on the CW this Fall

tomorrow people Robbie Amell

Have you ever wanted to teleport yourself from school or work to a place you’d rather be? How about read people’s minds, speak without saying anything at all or move objects without ever touching them? The Tomorrow People on the CW can do just that and more. Enter Stephen Jameson (Robbie Amell). He’s caught up in his adolescent transformation — pimples, hormonal fluctuation … the ability to wake up in strange places seemingly without ever leaving his room …

His family has been plagued with what seems to be a genetic psychological disorder, schizophrenia. His father had it. Now it seems like he is suffering the same fate — hearing voices … having visual delusions. It isn’t until later that he finds out he is not crazy after all. There are others out there that went through the same “awakening”. They live hidden in plain sight. Beneath the shadows they huddle together avoiding a group of scientists who seem to be hunting them all down. The difference is, Stephen is stronger and has powers that the others don’t.

Dr. Jedikiah Price (Mark Pellegrino) is in charge of Ultra, the established governmental team of scientists seeking to understand and neutralize this new, supposedly superior species of evolved humanoids. As ever, fear brings out the worst in those who do not understand — or don’t want to. He quickly tracks down Stephen, racing against the Tomorrow People. Both want to convince him to join their side. All is not what it seems however. Price isn’t just a scientist. There is something much more substantial that binds him to Stephen …

When faced with a choice of protecting his family and maintaining a normal life, versus barely surviving in the depths of the city, Stephen chooses to work with Dr. Price. Of course, those weren’t his only motivators for joining the Ultra team. More will be revealed on that as the show progresses.

As pilots go, this is not bad. Pellegrino always does a great job at playing the cool, patient baddie (he was the Devil in Supernatural after all). He believes in his crusade, and to that he is loyal. Where the rest of his mind and heart goes, it’s too soon to tell. Amell does a good job portraying Stephen, who is young and basically knows nothing about what is happening to him.

The twist at the end is great to get you going back for another episode. The dynamic between Price and Jameson should be interesting. How it will all play out in future episodes … only time will tell. Check it out Wednesdays this fall on the CW.
