Stuck at home for Halloween, or in the mood for some spin-tingling streamers to satisfy your gnawing gore requirement for this month? Don’t fret, Netflix has a wide variety of creepy, scary and ooky-spooky flicks and shows to choose from for this Halloween’s festivities.
Check out the top ten shows and movies we’ve selected below, as well as honorable mentions, to keep your scream on during Spook-tober.
- Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
A great cast heads up this Netflix series. It is a lot of fun to watch, with just enough spook to keep any Halloween enthusiast hooked from the beginning all the way through to the end of the second season.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina re-imagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. This is not your mother’s Sabrina Spellman…
- #Alive
Zombies galore in this 2020 South Korean horror film. The story centers around a guy who is trapped alone in his apartment with no food while there is a deadly virus rampaging the city. And the virus – you guessed it – turns people into zombies.
Throughout the entire movie he is trying to stay off of the zombies’ radar, and feed himself while he waits out a rescue. Of course this leads to many harrowing encounters with zombies, other people and difficult trials he must overcome if he is going to survive. Better than most movies of the same genre. Will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.
3. The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor
Both of these creepy series are from the same creator and producer, Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, and are part of The Haunting anthology series. The Haunting on Hill House is a modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson’s novel of the same name. It is focused on five siblings who grew up in the most famous haunted house in America. Needless to say, many sinister forces lurk in the shadows throughout the series.
The Haunting of Bly Manor is set in 1980s England. A young American nanny is hired to care for orphaned children in the Bly Manor estate. There are many dark secrets waiting to be unearthed throughout the story’s journey, one bone-chilling episode at a time.
4. The Mist
The Mist follows the Copeland family who are separated when a strange mist engulfs their small town. The town is cut off from the rest of the world, and the mist harbors many deadly monsters. Definitely one that will keep you hiding under the covers while you dare to peek at the screen to see what is going on.
5. Ju-On Origins
If you have ever seen The Grudge, you will appreciate Ju-On, which focuses on the true events that inspired the base story. It reveals the beginning of the curse and illustrates the chain of terror that follows anyone who comes into contact with the house. Make sure you have a nightlight to turn on after you start watching this one. Wait, don’t bother, it can get you with the lights on, or under the covers. Yea, no where is safe…
6. Winchester
Helen Mirren stars in this supernatural thriller as an heiress to a large firearms fortune. She builds a strange mansion with hidden rooms, maze-like corridors and other mysterious constructs to appease angry spirits killed by her family’s guns. The question is will she appease them or will the house consume her and everyone in it.
7. The Autopsy of Jane Doe
The body of an unidentified young woman is found and brought to a small-town coroner’s office. The father-son team perform an autopsy and discover many mysterious injuries. The longer the body of the woman is there, the closer they become to unraveling a terrifying secret. One that could cost them their lives … one that was lurking in the darkness waiting to be found.
8. The Binding
This Italian horror flick follows the story of a woman visiting her fiancé’s mother in southern Italy. What was to be a normal family meeting turns into something terrifying and harrowing as she tries to fight a malevolent curse hell-bent on claiming her daughter for its very own.
9. Cadaver
Coming October 22, Cadaver offers a decadent and thrilling new tale of horror. In this stream of scream a strange hotel offers a dinner show that begins to draw in crowds during a post-apocalyptic famine. Of course, one family learns not everything is as it seems … and the price of admission includes more than just a cover charge. Make sure you set up a reminder for this one!
10. Sleepy Hollow
Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci star in this classic that follows detective Ichabod Crane to Sleepy Hollow as he tries to investigate a series of murders. The infamous headless horseman rides his way into Crane’s inquiries, ending in Crane himself becoming a target of the undead demon. This is definitely one you will want to watch again and again every Halloween season.
