I walked in thinking this would be another one of those obviously predictable action movies, but Angle Has Fallen was more than that. Yes the person sitting 5 feet from you would know what is was all about by watching the trailer, but I still greatly enjoyed it. This wasn’t just war and fighting, and in all honesty I found it better as an action/comedy than action/thriller even if it’s not the genre classified. Importantly however, without all the useless blood and f words it could’ve easily been a PG-13 rating which would bring a wider audience range.
Yes there are punches thrown and shots fired, but what they do that caught my attention was the way they presented the uniqueness of each character and how each and every ones personality made the movie that much better than a basic slugfest film. Without the laughs Angel Has Fallen would have just been another action movie with the main character single handedly saving the country. Thank goodness it toned down the serious with some laughter.
To what extent would you go to try something that can save a life or two when everyone doubts you? Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), one of the best secret service agents, would. He even gets picked for head SS agent chosen by President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman) at his request. However, Banning is going through a hard time with concussions, spinal injuries, insomnia and an opioid addiction. In his mind, he doesn’t even want to take the job of protecting the President, because he knows he isn’t in tip top physical condition required for the job.
“Angel has Fallen” is the third movie of the series starting with“Olympus has Fallen” and then “London has Fallen”. Just as in the other two, this movie was horribly predictable. You can even tell from the trailer that Mike Banning Gets framed with the attempted murder of the President of the United States. With the whole country against him the only one person who trusts him is the President.
Movies get boring if it’s the same plot three movies in a row, but in this sequel they do show a couple of secret gun skills that I haven’t seen before. Another good point is that they gladly introduce a new character, Mike Banning’s father Clay Banning (Nick Nolte). Nick Nolte’s character becomes the most needed character for this film to work. He not only has skills as a retired war veteran, but also brings the much needed comedy that saves the otherwise serious film.
Audience opinion: “The movie was entertaining to watch, but it had its moments that made the film feel mediocre. “As for example the movie’s plot was pretty easy to figure out within the first 40 minutes into the movie.” “The movie had some good comedy bits that made me laugh, but still was also filled with explosions and stuff.” “Every scene had action and there was an explosion some way which raised the excitement level. It was cool and felt like a Michael Bay production” “Overall a decent movie to watch, but it’s pretty standard for a third sequel movie.”
Overall Angel Has Fallen is worth watching if you are looking for something fast pace and loud. There are many things that could have definitely been left out so it would have appealed to a wider crowd, but I still think it was a little better than the average action movie. (For Teens 3 out of 5 Stars)
Rated R for violence and language heavily throughout the movie.
