“RULE BREAKERS” Intriguing and inspirational

Heartwarming, intriguing and inspirational, the drama Rule Breakers, opens on March 7th. The film is based on a true story and delves into a different side of the people of Afghanistan.

It’s 1999 in the Herat Province of Afghanistan and female students are treated differently than their counterparts. At School, girls are treated with respect, but are limited to what classes they can attend. Enlightenment has come in the form of computers and the internet knowledge has leveled the playing field between the sexes. But political factions have put the country in the hands of men who are at war with foreign influences that control the people, setting the country in the cross hairs of losing their freedom.

Forward 13 years and we find women still separated from, but have been learning from the computers. Still not able to show their abilities of technology openly, they struggle to change their position in the community. Enter Roya (Nikohl Boosheri) who has been learning from books. Convincing a local retailer that she could teach him how to use the internet for in motion for is business, Roya puts herself in a position to help others. Thus begins an adventure that puts Roya in the opposition to put together a team of girls that can compete with other countries in a robotics challenge.

With the help of some wonderful actors and a musical score that represents the country director Bill Guttentag brings an inspiring story.
