‘The World Will Tremble’ Getting the Message Out

During World War two, the major conflict that revealed the evil of mankind, the human race went through many horrifying acts that were performed on the weak. Many years after this rough period of time, we are still learning of these despicable actions that were committed against the innocent. This film depicts the true events surrounding the experiences of the Holocaust from the courageous acts of a few that were able to open the eyes of many.

While witnessing the many horrors that took place in one of the concentration camps, Solomon Wiener (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and Michael Podchlebnik (Jeremy Neumark Jones) decipher a plan to escape and warn the Jewish people of the evil things that go on at Chelmno. With the Jewish population being told that they could volunteer for working opportunities and a better life than in the ghetto; then to only find out what the Germans are actually doing is frightening. Anyone who witnesses these torchers, ends up experiencing them firsthand with no escape.

The terror of watching your loved ones die or to find that they were killed and have no way to stop it can be devastating enough. Then knowing eventually that you will face that same fate, lingers over all of these selected captives. Also to feel that a decision to better your own family can be the most harmful choice you could have made, brings you unimaginable grief. This horrific experience can be eye opening to most and facing this straight on may be your final choice.

Director and writer Lior Geller gives us a firsthand experience of what these captives experienced and who also risked their lives in hopes of saving many. Lior displayed many visuals of what the Germans actually performed during the early stages of exterminating their Jewish enemies. He builds up a devastating realization that is discovered by these few elected prisoners seeing the torturous methods performed by the Nazi’s. Creating an experience for all his viewers, Geller successfully left a lasting visualization that will leave heartbreaking battle scars. There was also a spectacular emotional performance from the cast that brings out a sense of reality. This awareness presentation from Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Jeremy Neumark Jones, and the rest of the prisoners was well developed, knowing that their tragic attempt to get the word out will cost them everything.

This tragic story of the holocaust has been told many times since this unspeakable event occurred, but what makes this story unique is that these are the thankless hero’s that shocked the world. Encountering this well told tale is worth the time and effort, learning what the environment was for these unlucky citizens. An excellent narrative that brings the viewer into the event and truly gives you a glimpse of what things were actually like.

Final Comment: I based my grade on outstanding storyline, marvelous unveiling exposed, and remarkable acting by the cast.

Stars 4 out of 5
