Here’s a Halloween treat for all you horror fans. It’s called THE GOLDSMITH and it surprises with some nice twists and enough gore to fill buckets. The cinematography fits the spirt of All Hallow’s Eve with sets and creativity perfect for this tale of mayhem.
Antonio (Giuseppe Pambieri) and Giovanna (Stefania Casini) are a frail looking Italian couple living in a house in a heavy wooded area. He’s a goldsmith famous for expensive jewelry that he fashions in a room in the basement. Now elders, the two live a modest life with little interference. On this one day however, they are invaded by three masked intruders looking to rob the couple of their jewels and other valuables. The conflict between them is quick and the old couple find themselves at the command of the violent killers.

Forced into letting them into the goldsmith’s locked studio lab, Giovanna turns the tables on the thieves. So begins a night of terror, debauchery and a gory mess. Director Vincenzo Ricchiuto shows his ability to surprise with a few twists and excellent cinematography. No CGI here, but good old fashioned lighting and staging to put the audience in a mood for some very good terror.
The acting may not be top drawer, but the characters are well represented in this horror thriller. As the old couple Giuseppe Pambieri and Stefania Casini show their ability to make even the best of horror fans cringe. It’s Casini who upstages the whole cast however with her old soft demeanor turning wicked and disturbing.

The Goldsmith has not been unrated by the MPAA, but think R for Graphic Violence and language along with some much unexpected ferocious scenes. It’s a Halloween treat for fans of horror.
