This continuation of the Captain Marvel film from 2019, pulls together the many different series that were aired on Disney+ and allows their stories to now play out in an adventure. This blended narrative of three characters that become intertwined together after a single event develops a possible universe that includes new up in coming superheroes.
While in a space station above the earth a weird image appears, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) , the daughter of Maria Rambeau, who was best friend’s with Carol Danvers, is an astronaut for SABER, notices it coming closer. During this time Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), a former U.S Air Force pilot now avenger is looking out for the Skrull refugees located on a temporary planet, and Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), a teenage superhero from Jersey City, who wears a Magic Bangle that gives her the ability to harness cosmic energy is in her room day dreaming about meeting Captain Marvel. When some sort of galactic force brings them all together as one. Creates a force every time they try to use their special abilities and switches them from their location to one of the others’ locations.
With the direction of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), former director of S.H.I.E.L.D, who is now running a team for S.A.B.E.R that is helping the Skrulls find a safe home (The backstory is on the Disney+ series Secret Invasion). He leads the three superheroes on the correct path to find out why their powers are now connected and to try and defeat the new universal threat from Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) the supremor of the Kree people. This Kree warrior that wields a large hammer and possesses a similar bangle as Kamala’s, seeks vengeance toward the galaxy.

Trying to keep up in this adventure may be somewhat difficult without the characters’ backstories. You can find out this very useful information by reviewing the sources these characters appeared in. These interesting characters like Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, appeared in the film Captain Marvel, and the Avenger: Endgame. Monica Rambeau, appeared as a child in the film Captain Marvel and as an adult in the Disney+ series Wandavision. Lastly, Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel with her motion picture debut, appeared in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, which covers her back story and explains how she acquired the Bangle and her understanding of her new powers.

Director and writer Nia DaCosta put together an interesting storyline that linked these different characters together. One of these personalities has the determination that she will stop at nothing to correct wrong doing, another that is confused and searching for answers, while the other is enjoying her life and wanting to be something special. Nia does a fantastic job presenting all of these individuals, but lacks enough explanation to allow for the viewers that haven’t seen their history, could follow along. So far this is the shortest Marvel Film to date at 105 minutes, so there was definitely enough time to cover these tales with more details. On the other hand, DaCosta presented amazing special effects, with some that were breathtaking. Especially the visualizations for the many different worlds displayed throughout the film.
Finally, this motion picture is worth going to see on the big screen, especially for its outstanding special effects. But, for this film I recommend that you have watched the following films Captain Marvel, and Avengers: End Game, and the three series on Disney+ Ms. Marvel, Wandavision, Secret Invasion, and Hawkeye.

Final Comment: I based my grade on the spectacular special effects, the wonderful performance by the actors, and a different type of storyline.
Stars 3.5 out of 5
