Cowboy Bebop Live-Action Series Coming

If you are an anime fan, chances are you have heard of Cowboy Bebop. Netflix has taken on this project and turned it into a live-action series coming out on November 19, 2021.

The series is a space Western (Firefly anyone?) about three bounty hunters, aka “cowboys”, all trying to outrun the past. As different as they are deadly, the team forms a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their past finally catch up with them.

John Cho portrays Spike Spiegel, who is an impossibly cool “cowboy” (bounty hunter) with a deadly smile, a wry wit, and style to spare. He travels the solar system with his ex-cop partner, Jet, pursuing the future’s most dangerous bounties with a combination of charm, charisma — and deadly Jeet Kune Do.

Mustafa Shakir portrays Jet Black, who was one of the few honest cops in the solar system before an ultimate betrayal robbed him of all that he loved, forcing him into a vagabond life of hunting bounties to put food on the table. Jet is an inveterate jazz enthusiast and Captain of the Bebop.

Daniella Pineda portrays Faye Valentine, who is a bold, brash and unpredictable bounty hunter. Suffering from amnesia after years of being cryogenically frozen, Faye does whatever it takes to survive. Whether she’s lying, stealing, or just being a thorn in Spike and Jet’s side.

Cowboy Bebop is executive produced by André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Makoto Asanuma, Shin Sasaki and Masayuki Ozaki of Sunrise Inc., Tim Coddington, Tetsu Fujimura, Michael Katleman, Matthew Weinberg and Christopher Yost. Nemec serves as showrunner.

The original anime series director Shinichirō Watanabe is a consultant on the series, and the original composer Yoko Kanno returns for the live-action adaptation. The series also stars Alex Hassell and Elena Satine.

Check out the series on Netflix November 19, 2021.
